'Spuria Desertorum' (
John Bellenden Ker-Gawler, 1812), Series Spuriae. Lavender flowers; "The bloom of the present variety is exceedingly fragrant, a circumstance in which it differs from the others; but the same disagreeable and peculiar smell is perceived on breaking or bruising the foliage as in the rest. Said to be found in the sandy deserts of the oriental departments of the Russian empire, where it grows on the sides of larger rivers."---- Ker, J. B. (Ker-Gawler). Dykes considered this synonymous with Halophila.
