Iris popovii Vvedensky (
Aleksei Vvedensky);
Subgenus Scorpiris, (Juno); Standards only .4 cm wide as opposed to .5-1.2 cm in others; Rootstock a well developed bulb with papery outer coats about 1 ½ cm in diameter; Leaves different from others in the group being almost fully expanded at the time of flowering although still completely hiding the stem; leaves of consistent width up to almost the apex and there exhibiting a narrow scabrous margin. The lower leaves 2-2.5 cm broad; 2-4 pale violet to azure flowers; perianth tube 6-9 cm long; Falls 3.5-4.5 cm long by 6-10 mm broad; The darker veined haft not winged but with nearly parallel margins; the blade yellowish with violet veins; the central ridge undissected crenate; Standards 2 cm long; style crests obliquely triangular, acute, crenate, 5-13 mm long; stigmas obreniform. syn. Iris popovii Vvedensky. Possibly only a variety of Iris rosenbachiana.
