(SPEC) Iris pseudopallida Trinajsti
1976, Botanical author Trinajsti
Iris pseudopallida Trinajsti. (I. Trinajsti?, 1976, Croatia, south of Mosor, central and south Dalmatia, and along thhe Montenegrin coast).
Section Iris. Controversial species assigned by many authors to
Iris pallida. First decribed in "Beitrag zur Taxonomie des Iris pallida Komplexes,"
Biosistematika 2(1), 67-78, 1976. According to Trinajsti? the most important characteristic for the whole series is the dry spathe below the flowers. I. pallida has a silvery white spathe while
I. illyrica and
I. pseudopallida have a dirty pale rusty breath upon the spathe, and intensive violet, or pale violet flowers. Nikoli? & Miti? (1991) showed that
I. pseudopallida can be separated from pallida based apon the size and shape of epidermal cells and stoma, but this does not prove the differences between these species since these differences may also be accounted for by differences in the habitat of the two plants.
Iris pseudopallida may be a synonym for 'Dalmatica'. 2n=24, Mitic, 1991.Nikolic(199?). References to this Iris have stated it has been collected from Mount Origen and that it and Iris reichenbachii are the only Iris sp. endemics to the Balkans. This would lead one to believe that it is possibly a synonym with Iris origeni
