Iris schachtii Markgraf (
Friedrich Markgraf. 1957, Ankara);
Section Iris . 4-12" (10-30 cm); the two or more flowers may be a dull purple, to violet with bluish white to yellow-tipped beards, or bicolor yellow, or yellow flowered with markings of cream, green on brown towards the base of the segments, or white flowered. The simple or one-branched stem is sheathed in the green, sometimes stained purple, semi-inflated, navicular bract and bracteole. In
The Flora of Turkey Mathew suggests it is "related to
I. taochia but generally smaller, with more markedly falcate leaves tapering more abruptly at the apex and with a narrower lamina to the falls." Markgraf, Gartenbauwiss, 22: 550-551. 1957.
