(SPEC) Iris subdichotoma Zhao
1980, Botanical author Zhao
_Iris subdichotoma_ Zhao. (
Yu-tang Zhao, 1980, Haba Snow Mountain, Yunnan, China);
Subgenus Nepalensis; height 10-16" (25-40 cm); Flowers purple or violet; Zhao in Acta Phytotaxonomica Sinica 18(1): 57. 1980. As yet unknown outside of China we have only the description in Waddick & Zhao (1992) Iris of China, from which to draw. There we find a dwarf perennial only to 16 inches tall very similar to Iris dichotoma only smaller. The leaves are shorter but slightly more erect; the stems are shorter but the bracts about the same size as in Iris dichotoma giving the appearance of being proportionately larger. It has the same elongated cylindrical capsule that splits about one third the way down releasing the maroon seeds with small wings at either end.
