Section Iris. Dwarf Bearded; Height 5-12" (15-30 cm), Yellow, blue, or white; beard white, yellow tipped hairs or yellow hairs. hafts veined brown or brownish violet on a white or yellow ground. Also thought by some to be a form of _Iris aphylla

A species from the Caucasus "having bloom stalks of about the same height as those of typical I. aphylla, but with flowers either yellow, violet or whitish. Earnest Luscombe, 1976 B.I.S. Yearbook-- "Iris aphylla var. taochia Woronow ex Grossheim. Caucasus region: Kars, Turkish Armenia. Habit of growth resembles Iris aphylla. Large flowers normally dark violet-purple, but forms with yellow or whitish flowers are recorded. In particular, the dark violet flowered form is refined and most attractive." |
