Iris xanthochlora Wendelbo. (
Per Wendelbo, 1969, Northeastern Afghanistan);
Subgenus Scorpiris, (Juno); 4-6" (10-15 cm); 1-2 greenish yellow flowers similar to
Iris kopetdagensis. Swollen storage roots. The leaves are well developed at flowering time up to 20 cm long by 2 cm wide, narrowing only at the tip. They are densely papillose-puberulent all over, dark green above dull green below with rather indistinct but whitish margins. Falls 4 cm long and gradually widening to 1 cm. The crest on the fall is yellow-orange, with an entire margin and 1 cm long by .1 cm high. The standards flare outwards and are 1-1.5 cm long. The style branches are 3.5-3.8 cm long with lobes 1.2 cm long. Seeds with a crest-like aril at one end. Collected and introduced by Paul Furse. Wendelbo in Bot.
