The following is reported in the Cornell University Agricultural Experiment Station Memoir 100A. E. Kunderd (Fryer, 1917)Color effect a smoky vinaceous-fawn, velvety-burnt-lake, blended bicolor; size good; form short, open, rounded ; flowering habit free; tall bearded class; height 18 in.; branching short, high, 1 lateral. A flower. of good substance; frail texture; smooth surface; good fragrance; good lasting quality. Useful for massing. S. russet-vinaceous suffused with fawn color, with bronzing at the base and ·on the claw, reticulated with red-brown; carriage cupped, arching; blade obovate, undulate, slightly frilled and revolute, smooth; size 1½ in. wide, 2 in. long. F. velvety burnt-lake, veined with same to brown on outer haft along beard, ground lavender-white at base of blade with the haft bronzed and reticulated with red-brown; carriage flaring to drooping; wedge-shaped, convex; size 1½ in. wide, 2¼ in. long. Minor parts: beard fine, sparse, projecting, yellow; haft of medium width, channeled; style-branches broad, overarching, dull yellow; crest small, fringed; pollen plentiful; spathe0valves green, one-third scarious, inflated. -Gi::owth weak to moderate; increase slow; habit open; foliage stiff, leaves slender, glaucous yellow-green tinged at base; 2 blooms open at once, floriferous; stalk erect, with 3-5 buds. This variety is interesting for landscape mass because of its dense flowering / heads. It is one of Fryer's Glory strain. Fryer. describes the standards as .. yellow-bronze tinged magenta. |
