From Longfield Iris Farm catalog, 1942: Action Front (Cook No. 139, 1942). A coppery red Iris that appears distinct and worthy by reason of its fine color, and because of its general good qualities, both in flower and plant. In addition to the near-red color, the flowers possess substance, shape, size, in excellent combination. A medium red, slightly bicolor, the broad, smooth standards and falls alike contributing to the rich color effect. The plant is hardy and dependable in performance, the stems freely produced, strong and erect. One of the best all-around Irises in the red color class we have grown or seen. Detail: S. conic-domed, Ocher Red; F. flaring Garnet Brown; crests, Yellow Ocher to Buckthorn Brown; beard, Cadmium Yellow. Flowers, 5 ins. x 5 ins. Stem, 3 feet, branched from middle up, bearing nine flowers. Midseason. $10.00. |
From Milliken Iris Gardens catalog, 1949: ACTION FRONT A gleaming copper-red with domed standards and wide falls with gold bands. The color runs into the depths of the flower adding greatly to the rich coloring. The plant itself is a strong grower. 3 ft. $1.50 |
