'Albert Victor' (
Barr & Sons, 1885), TB, Midseason bloom, Color Class-B1M; Light blue
I. pallida type. Fragrant. High Commendation (R.H.S.) 1903, shown by Veitch; High Commendation (R.H.S.) 1916; (Peckham, 1940, p. 86)
See below:
"Color effect a lavender-violet self. Standards lavender-violet tinged chestnut-brown to violet at base. Falls pleroma violet fading to lavender on the outer haft and edge. Beard medium fine, projecting, bluish white, orange tipped. Large flowers, well formed and borne on exceptionally tall stems. The heavier stem. the broader foliage, and the larger, less-compact flower head distinguish it from Iris pallida var. australis. Its good substance, clear color, and fine, tho bitterish, perfume make it a favorite garden and cut flower. Rating 79." [Cornell Extension Bulletin #112, p 60] |
The 1919 catalog of The Wing Seed Co. notes: "ALBERT VICTOR — (Pall.) Beautiful warm lavender, giving an effect of light and dark shading on account of the ruffling and curling of the divisions. All divisions broad, long and full. S. incurved; F. drooping. Great flowers of fine form and splendid substance. Forty inches. 15c" |
