S. ruffled, a beautiful shrimp pink, another of Cayeux masterpieces; F. same with a darker spot in center, the whole flower glistens and gleams as though the sun was in the heart. Branching fine, vigorous and with many blooms. Lewis, Mrs. Herman E. Varietal Notes 1938, American Iris Society Bulletin 72 (January 1939), 9.

A lovely light pink-lavender blend. In a clump, it loses color value due to its tendency to send its bloomstalks up on the outside of the clump and in a wide arc rather than straight up. Douglas, Geddes (1942). More Variety Comments, 1942. American Iris Society Bulletin, 88 (January 1943), 62.
Among the yellow-toned pinks, I put down ANGELUS (16), AUBANEL (17), and SANDIA (18) that I would get again. AUBANEL is the pinkest of the three. In fact, only a few very new iris are more so. I have liked it so much that I have never understood why it was not rated higher by other judges. Wills, Jesse, (1943). Older Iris I Would Buy Again, American Iris Society Bulletin, 89 (April 1943), 14.
The very fragrant AUBANEL has ruffled standards slightly open, and shrimp pink falls with a blue blaze. I know it is popular but I am still unimpressed. McCombs, Lila (California), A Critical Evaluation of Older Iris, American Iris Society Bulletin 110 (July 1948), 54.
