From Carl Salbach catalog 1946: BALI BELLE. A distinct plicata of new coloring with exceptionally large, full-formed flowers on 33" stems, high branched but well displayed. It has smoky yellow standards and clear primrose yellow falls, delicately but strongly edged pale purple, the whole flower lighted by a blue blaze under the white beard. The name suggests its formal yet exotic character. Each $12.50.
From Milliken Gardens catalog, 1949: BALl BELLE (Mitchell) This iris attracted our attention when we first saw it as an unnamed seedling which stood out among a large assortment of yellow plicatas in Sidney Mitchell's garden. Its soft yellow ground coloring is lightly, but sharply, marked with purple, but the touch which gives it its exceptional appeal is a blue blaze extending from the white beard. 2-1/2 feet. $2.50; 3 for $6.00.
