From Hallcroft Iris catalog, 1949 BANDMASTER H. C. 1943. H. M. 1944. A very large vigorous growing and free blooming powder blue, a few shades lighter than The Admiral. The Color holds unusually well and the form, substance, stem and branching are good. Height 38 inches. $4.00.
From "Varietal Comments", AIS Bulletin #103, October 1946: Immense flowers of pleasing light-medium blue on a fairly well branched stalk. Substance good. Was unable to judge strength of stalk for size bloom as a very severe rain had taken over almost everything in the garden.

From Varietal Comments, AIS Bulletin #104, January 1947: BANDMASTER (Hall) Very large and tall this year: Flowers 7" high and well branched. This is a true light-blue, practically free from gray.
David R. Kinish, "Iris Ramblings", AIS Bulletin #107: BANDMASTER(Hall '44) is a very large flower, deeper in tone than light blue but not dark. It holds its color well and has good substance and branching. The falls seemed a bit long to me but the color is very good.
Additional Catalog References: Hallcroft 1949; Longfield 1947; Tell 1947.
