From Longfield Iris Farm catalog, 1934: Barbarian (Wmsn. No. 630, 1934). (L. A. Williamson X -). This is such a unique Iris, in fact unlike any other in its peculiar form, that we feel it merits introduction. The long slender flowers which appear nearly lacinated with very long pointed buds give an odd appearance and yet a very graceful one. S. conic arched, fiddle shaped, Mathew's Purple. F.drooping, extremely pointed wedge-shaped, Mathew's Purple with faint electric blue streak below beard. Haft White veined Kaiser Brown. Style branches, Hortense Violet along midrib, Baryta Yellow along edges. Beard, very sparse, Light Cadmium. Well-branched stalks, 32 inches high with four flowers to a stalk. Flowers: 6-1/2 inches high, 4 inches wide. Fragrant. $2.00. |
