'Bataan' (Rudolph E. Kleinsorge, R. 1942). TB, 36", Midseason bloom. Dark blend of plum, henna and brown. ((('Purissima' x 'Cameliard') x ?)) X 'Aztec Copper'. Introduced by Cooley's in 1942. Schreiners 1943.

Seems to have been widely distributed throughout the country and has been listed in as few as 36 nursery catalogs. However, it has disappeared from gardens in the U.S. and was not listed in any catalogs by the late 1950's.

Tell (1949) BATAAN (Kleinsorge '42) M (Lav.-Grey Sdlg. 233: (Purissima x Cameliard) x?) x (Aztec Copper) Rich coppery-plum, henna and brown blend—quite on the order of 'Cape Bon'. We like it very much. Rather poor grower in some places $2.00.

A.I.S. Bull Vol. 105 (1947) Bataan (Kleinsorge) : Seemed to have everything but brightness. A good flower but very dull as to color.

Fairmount (1945): BATAAN (Kleinsorge 1942) M. L. A deep dark blending: of plum, henna, and glowing brown which gives a definite henna cast to the whole flower. The blooms are rather oval in shape with broad widely flaring falls, and well domed standards. Good branching. 36 in. $5.00

Melrose (1956) listed this in their remontant (re-blooming) section.

Norwood Gardens (1953) says vigorous grower.
