From AIS Bulletin #209 April 1973 Introducing BLUE LUSTER (0. L. Brown '73). TB, Mid. 38". Giant flowers with domed standards and wide semiflaring falls. Beautifully ruffled medium blue with lustrous eye-catching blue beard. Branching is excellent, 9 and 10 buds. HC '72 under #70-1E4. Net $25.00. Brown's Sunnyhill Gardens. |
BLUE LUSTER (O. Brown '73), in my opinion a true masterpiece. I must have had my back turned at the wrong time that year, as I didn't obtain it when it was introduced so had to be satisfied viewing it in other gardens-and how hard that was on me! It is a deep, somehow warm, tone of blue with beards of the same color, and as you're drawn close to it you pick up its lovely fragrance. Although a little short in my garden, 1975 was a happier year because I had it growing there. From 1987 Schreiner's catalog: BLUE LUSTER (O. Brown 1973) ML. 36". An imposing very smooth evenly colored rich blue self, silken-like texture and a lustrous blue beard. Very good substance and extremely smooth finish. Excellent branching with many buds. HM '74. AM '76. $4.00 |
BLUE LUSTER (Opal Brown) - A lustrous deep blue with an even deeper blue beard. Great form and always throws show stalks. Color varies a bit from year to year with different weather conditions.
