From Carl Salbach catalog 1943: BLUE SHIMMER (J. Sass). We consider this the finest of all the blue plicatas. Standards white, heavily flushed and evenly dotted blue. Falls same color but showing more white. Large blooms beautifully poised on tall low-branched stems. Very beautiful and distinct. 36". Mid-season. $15.00.
From Sass catalog, 1949: BLUE SHIMMER (J. Sass, 1942)-A blue and white plicata. White ground, heavily but evenly marked and dotted soft bluish violet. 36-inch good branching stems. $2.50.

BLUE SHIMMER (Sass, 1942): Particularly fine in New England. It is a cool weather iris, much better if planted in partial shade. Dolman. Over rated. The flowers are too large for the height of the stalk, tend to be coarse and have oversize falls. Sanford. Bloomed on 40 inch stalks.
