'Blue Staccato' (James Gibson, R. 1976). Seedling# 9-2C. TB, 40" (102 cm). Early midseason bloom. Standards moorish blue lines on rim and specks on pure white ground; falls icy, sparkling white with narrow band of sharp moorish blue plicata markings; dresden yellow beard tipped blue; ruffled and fluted. Sweet and intense fragrance . 'Indigo Rim' X ('Bold Overture' x 'Opening Night'). Gibson 1977. Honorable Mention 1978; Award of Merit 1982.

From AIS Bulletin #224 Winter 1977 Introducing BLUE STACATTO (1977). TB, EM, 40", #9-2C. $25.00. A fitting name for this refreshing iris. The Moorish blue on pure dazzling white ground plicata was one of the most beautiful and admired seedlings last spring. One iris judge picked out five perfect show stalks in the clump of plants, anyone of which he felt was a sure show winner. The clear cut blue margin on pure snow white ground, and 6"x7" blossoms are perfectly shaped and ruffled.The standards are more heavily marked on a pure white ground, speckled blue in the center. The broad, pure white, ruffled and semi-flaring falls are brilliantly rimmed with a narrow band of sharp, clean cut Moorish blue stitching, repeating the color of the standards. The beard is a Dresden yellow, touched with blue. The growing habits are excellent. Bloodline of INDIGO RIM, BOLD OVERTURE and OPENING NIGHT. Gibson’s Iris Gardens.
