From Schreiner’s 1976 Catalog: BY NIGHT (Schreiner 1976) M. 38” $20. Boldy held on a very tall branched stem is this sultry ebony shaded blue-black featuring a formidable quality hard to obtain in dark Iris. This luxuriant production of extra fine stems, and growth habits equals the advance in height and branching that we have in other colors—a real step forward. It is a rich, sonorous deep night blue-black self, even to the beard. Medium sized flowers of good substance, not as dark as the ace-of-spades but still a majestic new dark “trump!” An ideal dark variety—imagine placing it in the garden border with a lighter colored Iris in the foreground.
