'Cheerleader' (E. Greig Lapham, R. 1956). Seedling# 15-56. TB, 36" (91 cm), Late bloom. Color Class-R3, Standards rosy Morro med (M & P), falls maroon-red (M & P); effect, rich rosy med near self; bright yellow beard. Cook seedling# 7850 X 'Defiance'. Longfield 1958.

From Longfield Iris Farms catalog, 1958: CHEERLEADER (Lapham No. 15-56) (Cook # 7850 x Defiance). A big bold rich rosy red close to a self with a velvety overlay on the falls. The very attractive close clipped beards of Cadmium Yellow makes this lovely Iris distinct from other reds. The flowers are large 6-1/2 x 5-1/2 inches with very smooth and even, color deep into the throat. A formal flower of excellent form and heavy substance. 36 inches. Late. $20.00.
