COMANCHERO (Tompkins 1963) M.L. 42 in. ((Inca Empire x Ahoy) x Allaglow)) x Schreiner L-305-2 :-(((Casa Morena x (Bryce Canyon x Sunset Blaze)) x Inca Chief). A rich glowing, reddish brown self. Large and heavily substanced with broad petals, this has very wide, ruffled standards and flaring horizontal falls, huge and round with beautifully marcelled edges. By ridgway it is a blend of Coffee, Copper, Indian Lake and Brazilian red. So smoothly is it blended that it is hard to tell if any certain color dominated and sometimes it seems as if it is a dark red brown while at other times it appears to be a glowing copper red with a sleek brown overtone. Extremely showy, it should be as fine a show flower as it is a garden subject, due to its tall, perfectly branched stalks which show the great flat falled flowers to perfection. One to a customer. No. 60-96. $30.00. Fleur De Lis Gardens catalog, 1963. |
