From Mission Bell Gardens catalog, 1963: CORABANDE (Hamblen) Early to late. 36". Coral-buff standards with matching style arms; smooth white falls with a heavy border of deeper coral-buff set off by a fiery orange beard. Heavily substanced, wide petals: standards cupped, falls horizontally flared. All flower parts ruffled and laced in a pleasing manner. Strong stalks, vigorous growth. (Glittering Amber) X (Tompkins 55 - 162: (((Chantilly x Lavender and Gold Lace) x Reciprocal cross) x Honeyflow)). HC '60. No. HB-67. Net 20.00.
CORABANDE (Hamblen). Mrs. Hamblen says she "dreamed up" the name after learning her first choice was not available. She had thought of it as a three-syllable word, but noting the proneness of people to add a syllable, as though the name were spelled Corabandy, she has accepted that pronunciation.
