From 'Rainbow Fragments', Sturtevant, 1922: A ruffled white and mauve plicata, standards erect to arching, nearly covered with the violet frill; falls drooping, clear white strongly margined with violet. beard white to yellow minutely tipped brown.
From Adamgrove catalog, 1997: DAMOZEL (Morrison, 1922) Tall Bearded diploid. Plicata, with the standards largely covered in soft violet-blue and the falls mostly white with a narrow strip of violet down each side. The whole affair is frankly a little saggy by today's standards, but it wasn't bad for the times and it reminds us of its breeder. Mr. Morrison was very active in many branches of horticulture, worked for USDA for many years, and contributed to iris society publications prolifically. $5.00
A description of 'Damozel' from James Marion Schull's book "Rainbow Fragments", 1931.

James Marion Schull in his book “Rainbow Fragments”, 1931, in the chapter “A Selected List of Better Varieties, with Formal Descriptions” provides descriptions of sixty-four varieties of tall bearded Iris. Below is the chapter’s introductory paragraph and his description of this Iris.

Many attempts have been made to name the best twelve, the best twenty-five, fifty, or the best hundred varieties of the tall bearded Iris. This is of course an impossible task and certainly one that cannot be performed by one gardener for another or by the author for his readers. The sixty-four varieties here singled out for special consideration are not presented as the best sixty-four, but they are among the best as indicated by the critical judgement of a sufficient number of judges to assure them a fairly stable position in the scale of rating as provided by the American Iris Society in its recently published Symposium.
