‘Dawn Rays’ is listed for sale in Mrs. Whiting's catalog for 1948 in a section she calls “Personality Parade for 1948". This is a group of irises that she had been selling under number to garden visitors. "So many people have urged us to name them, even suggested names for them. . ."
From Maple Valley Gardens catalog, 1951: DAWN RAYS (W. 1948) No. 4019 (MIDWEST GEM X FIESTA). M., 38 inches. Lovely pink and yellow blend, sister seedling of MELLOWGLOW. Vigorous. $1.00.
