1961, Gibson

'Desert Thistle' (James Gibson, R. 1960). Seedling 58-5B. TB, 38" (97 cm), Early to midseason bloom. Color Code = V1. Orchid-violet self with blaze of blue-orchid; reddish-tangerine beard. Seedling 43-2C X 'Palomino'. Craig 1961. Honorable Mention 1962.

ORIGINAL CATALOG DESCRIPTION:

DESERT THISTLE (Gibson, 1961) Each $25.00. While Jim Gibson has become favorably known for his plicatas his breeding program in the field of pinks has been pursued with equal zeal and he is adding lace and fringes! This one is not pink but is a glowing, rosy mauve, or perhaps a captivating blend of lavender-rose, slightly blued, would better describe it. Tall, large and exciting, with widestandards and falls, finely laced. No. 58-5B. Cooley's Iris, 1961.

From Fleur De Lis Gardens catalog 1963: DESERT THISTLE (Gibson '6 1) M. 38 in. Sdlg. x Palomino. A glowing rosy mauve or lavender rose with slight blue cast and pinkred beard. The broad, full petals are slightly laced, hafts touched brown by light veinings. H.M. 1962. 12.00.
