From AIS Bulletin #125, April 1952. Introducing DESERT TWILIGHT possesses all those subtle tones, so characteristic of the Mojave Desert at sundown. A soft violet lobelia self with mauve wood brown fused at the haft, with the added attraction of a beautiful enamel like finish. Fine form, substance and branching. H.C. 1951. $20.00. Syllmar Gardens.
From Iris Test Garden Catalog, 1955: DESERT TWILIGHT. (E. Miess 1952). The flower is a pastel shade of delicate violet-lobelia, fused with a warm mauvewood brown at the haft. Then, like a last ray of sunlight to brighten the scene and accent the gentle tone of the pastels comes the deep golden glow of the beard. It has the virtues of large, well-spaced blooms, very thick petals, (40 inch) well-branched stems, and vigorous plants. The falls are horizontal to flaring; the standards are closed and domed; both falls and standards are ruffled just enough to give superb grace to each bloom. Midseason. H.C. A.I.S. 1951; H.M 1952. $9.00.

Desert Twilight (Miess '52) "tall well branched stalks of an interesting shade of violet, with an overtone of soft brown at the haft. Heavy substance, flaring falls and nicely closed standards. Breathtaking in a clump. Region 15, Varietal Comments. The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 134 (July 1954): 71.
From the Milliken Catalog, 1955: Such subtle coloring that it creates an intrigue that you can't resist. As though the colors of day were caught and subdued by the colors of night, the soft lobelia-violet darkens to mauve-brown at the haft, but a ray of sunlight escapes and forms the beard. This, with heavy substance, and well-placed branching. High Commendation 1951. Honorable Mention 1952.
