From Fleur De Lis Gardens catalog 1963: DONNYBROOK (Tomp. '61) M.L. 38 in. (Hyblaze x Defiance). A shade lighter but much like Defiance in its true redness, this is much larger and many times brighter. Broad petaled and well formed, the large flowers are nicely placed on tall, wellbranched stalks. A good grower in every way. H.C. 1960. 25.00.
DONNYBROOK (Tompkins 1961). Not as dark as DEFIANCE, this is even more red in tone. The form is excellent and substance and resistance to burning are well above average. DONNYBROOK (Tompkins '61) In our garden this has been a red that continually attracted notice for its redness, substance and resistance to fading and sunburn. Ralph and Helen Lewis, “Iris from the Carolinas to Iowa and Ohio,” Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 179 (October 1965): 91.
