From Rainbow Hybridizing Gardens catalog 1963: DOUBLE ROSE (Recknor '61) L - 35". A fantastically double flower tosses aside what has been conventional Iris form for centuries, adopts instead the form of a big, double rose--& hence its name! Fall-like petals have no beards, & may be semi-erect or spreading. Center filled with curved, nearly erect, standard-like petals, large style arms & petaloid styles. Heretofore, so-called "doub!e" Iris tested showed relatively little doubling; but no seeker of the unusual will be d1sappointed in lack of doubling in Double Rose, as it doesn't grow any other way! A breeder's Iris since adverse weather sometimes prevents complete normal opening; yet it has genes for doubling. Some enterprising breeder will take this and produce an Iris to startle the world. Why not you? A blend of deep & bnght cnmson with mahogany & yellow. Day Dreamer X El Paso. Regularly $5.00; on $10 order $3.3S; on $25 order $2.SO.
