From Wing Seed catalog, 1919: DR. BERNICE — (Sq.) S. bronze flushed bluish-violet with golden reflections; style arms banded pinkish-lavender; F. velvety purple with light and dark shadings, closely netted brown on yellowish-white at base. Large, beautiful flower, all divisions full. Two feet. 35¢.
From Indian Spring Farms catalog, 1927: DR. BERNICE (1867) 7.4. A blended bicolor in rich shades of brown. S.honey-yellow, shading to mikado-brown at the tips; F. velvety burnt lake, running into Indian red veins on the yellowish haft. A vigorous variety with stalks well branched. 24 inches. 35 cts. each; 85 cts. for 3; $3.00 per doz.
 
From Bonnewitz catalog, 1926: DR. BERNICE (?) $0.35. S. coppery bronze; F. velvety crimson. Very large and beautiful. Its outstanding color combination makes it one of the popular standard varieties. Two rhizomes at 30c each; five or more rhizomes at 25c each.
