DRUM MAJOR (Douglas) "This iris is finally winning the recognition it deserves. It is a big bright rose-red which really grows well. It has also proved to be a good parent. It has very nice form and branching." [Jesse E. Wills (Tennessee), “Varietal Comment, Irises Seen in Nashville” The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 123, (October 1951): 71.] |
DRUM MAJOR (G. Douglas 1947) M. L. The falls of Oxblood red (Ridgway) are large and flaring, bordered with a lighter red that is the same color as the standards. The standards are very broad and roundly domed, with firm substance and clear color. The brighter red styles give an inner glow in pleasing contrast to the clean darker hafts and brown gold beard. 38 in. 3 for $4.75 $2.00. [Fairmount catalog, 1955] |
