From Bonnewitz catalog, 1923/24: DUSKY MAID (Bliss) $2.00. As this variety bloomed in my garden this year the standards were tan and the falls mulberry. I am not sure that it will deserve a place in our gardens, for it did not have the clear color effect which we are so glad to see in Dalila and other similar varieties. However, it is probable that American enthusiasts will be glad to pass their own judgment upon it. I can spare a half dozen or more roots this year. |
From Sam Carpenter Garden catalog, 1925: DUSKY MAID (Bliss 1919) - Standards fawn; Falls wide-spreading of a deep red purple with pale broad margin. 30". $2.00. |
