From Cooley's Gardens catalog for 1941: "TB 30-36". Solid and uniform old gold, a flower of startling size and of broadly spreading form. The color is not dull, as one might expect from old gold, but is very much alive due to a peculiar overlay of 'rusty red,' which seems to come from nowhere but is apparant in all parts of the flower. This iris is a pronounced self from top to bottom, and it carries remarkably well in the garden. Of medium height, the gigantic blooms are on a level that permits full observation of their size and beauty. ('Old Parchment' X ('Tuscany Gold' x 'Rameses')).

  • 'Fortune' opens with a brownish overlay that quickly fades to a burnished old gold. Has always grown very short for me. Around 27". -- MikeUnser - 2016-09-04
