From Iris Test Garden catalog, 1958: FORTUNE'S GIFT. (Mitsch 1955). M. 40 inches. More sophisticated color development has probably been achieved by Iris hybridizers than by the hybridizers of any other flower. Nowhere is this more true than in the case of the browns, for brown flowers scarcely exist in Nature. Yet they are a superb development. Fortune's Gift, a cross of Cordovan x Inca Chief, carries the browns to new heights of perfection and stamina. The huge 7-inch flowers are of noble proportions, tremendous substance and magnificent height and carriage. $10.00. |
From Rainbow Hybridizing Gardens catalog 1963: FORTUNE'S GIFT (Mitsch '55) M-40". Tremendous blooms measure 7" across. Leathery falls are 3-1/2" across, with wide hafts. A smooth brown self with a faint reddisb glow. Beard golden-bronze, often ending in a slight crest. Particularly significant since brown flowers hardly exist in nature, yet are a superb addition to the rainbow of Iris colors. Pollen plentiful. HM'56; JC'57. (Cordovan X Inca Chief). Regularly $2.50; on $10 order $1.85; on $25 order $1.60. |
