From Fairmount Gardens catalog, 1938/39: FRANCESCA (Douglas 1934) A tall and stately iris of most un- usual and beautiful coloring. A self of deep Pompeian pink. The standards are high and domed, the falls semi-flaring. Many flowers borne on well branched stems. Very outstanding. 40 in. $5.00. |
At Geddes Douglas garden we saw a great many well-grown new things, including a number of interesting seedlings. I particularly liked the color of Francesca, Mr. Douglas's introduction, and while the flower itself is not as large as it might be for the height of its stem, and the segments are narrow, nevertheless it makes a glorious patch of color unlike all others.
