From Carl Salbach catalog 1939: FRANK ADAMS (Lapham). Probably the finest of many outstanding Lapham creations. Reported to us as one of. the three best new iris seen in the East last year, and certainly a topnotcher. Standards maize yellow, falls "crushed raspberry." 47-inch. $10.00.
From Cooley's Gardens catalog, 1940: A tall and very well proportioned large new iris with rosy tan standards and rosy red falls. Produced by E.G. Lapham, of Elkhart Indiana. Flowers, stalk and foliage are of unusually large size. Fragrant. HM 1938; AM 1940.

Frank Adams is a bicolor of variegata brilliance, its branching perfect, its domed standards pinkish tan, its broad, hanging falls a deep rose. [Lila McCombs, “A Critical Evaluation of Older Irises”, The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 110 (July 1948): 57.]
From Adamgrove catalog, 1997: FRANK ADAMS (Lapham, 37) Once popular, but long since superseded by other bicolors. So why offer it? The flowers of light tan-buff and cherry produce malvidin, the red pigment in Malva (hardy hibiscus) and Fuchsia. $5.00. AM 40.
