1972, Schmelzer

'Gay Festival' (Hazel Schmelzer, R. 1971). Seedling# 8-10-N.E.7. TB, 37" (94 cm), Early to late bloom. Standards lobelia blue (Wilson 41/3); falls amethyst violet (35/2); bright red beard. Seedling# 42-7-N 23 X 'Lightning Ridge'. Schmelzer 1972.

From AIS Bulletin #205 April 1972 Introducing GAY FESTIVAL (42-70N23) X Lightning Ridge). 36-38. EML. Lobelia blue standards (41/3). Falls of amethyst violet (35/2); bright red beard. You will see "her" dancing with her widely flaring skirt and bright red sash at the festival and feel gay and happy too. Rosette for best seedling in our local show in 1971. $25.00. Schmelzer's Garden.
