From Schreiner’s catalog, 2015: GRAFENAU REMEMBERED (Schreiner 2015) L. 40” $50.00. Grafenau, Germany is a small city in Southeast Germany, where F. X. Schreiner lived until emigrating to St. Paul, MN as a boy in 1886. Its namesake, a tall plum purple plicata, presents demurely closed standards as the backdrop for the captivating cascade of cream coating the plum-encircled falls. See our photo below. Grafenau Remembered opens late in the season and has excellent branching and good growth habits. 125 years after F.X. departed, we paid a brief visit to Grafenau, and reflected on how actions of long ago can have far-reaching consequences. Seedling #TT1710-1. |
