From Maple Valley Iris Garden catalog, 1947: GREEN PASTURES (Heller 1947) No. 1407 (OLD IRONSIDES X OREGON SUNSHINE) E. M. L. 54 inches. I saw this iris in bloom last spring at Mrs. Blake’s and was fascinated by it. It is the nearest to a green iris that I have ever seen, a lovely Chartreuse with a blue beard which enhances its beauty. The flowers are large and pleasingly ruffled, the stalk well branched, carrying 9 buds. The bloom extends over a long season from early to late, each flower lasting several days. The foliage stands 36 inches tall, clean and strong. The plant is prolific of bloom and increase and seems to be perfectly hardy. It can be seen this year in our own garden, in Mr. Heller’s in Los Angeles, Mrs. Pattison’s in Sherman Oaks, Mrs.Heimer's in Encino, Mrs. Blake’s in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Mrs. Nesmith's in Lowell, Massachusetts. It is an iris that every connoisseur will want in his garden. Seven judges gave it an H. C. at the Hollywood Show in 1945. $30.00.
From Milliken Gardens catalog, 1952: GREEN PASTURES (Heller) This iris will draw you back for a second look every time. It is different-a chartreuse yellow, with a touch of blue at the end of the beard, giving the effect of a distinctly green iris. Lasts well as a cut flower. 3 ft. $2.50.

From Rainbow Hybridizing Gardens catalog 1963: GREEN PASTURES (Heller '47) E to L-44". One of closest approaches to green yet available. A delightful chartreuse yellow in pastel tints. Touch of blue at tip of yellowish olive beard most effective; accentuates cool green tones. Huge, tall, free flowering. Starts early, often still in good condition when late varieties come out. Reported hardy in Iowa, but some in cold climates protect rhizomes over winter with a good mulch. Introduced at $30.00. Extremely popular, outselling all other approaches to green; in fact, it outsold all other varieties. I sent out over 1,000 rhizomes, yet over 100 people were disappointed as they got their order in too late to get Green Pastures. A word to the wise is sufficient--order TODAY. Pollen is abundant, highly fertile; excellent seed setter. Now is the time to get a start so you can begin crossing with various greenish tones. You may well come up with a world beater. Note the quality of these descendants: Green Chance, Green Hat, Winged Goddess, Breath O'Killarney, Bowling Green. HC'45! HM'47. Old Ironsides X Oregon Sunshine. See in color. Regularly $1.50; on $10 order $1.15; on $25 order 95c.
