From Longfield Iris Farms catalog, 1944: Harriet Thoreau (Cook No. 6239, 1944). A delightful orchid pink self of individuality and style. Traits all of the best: the stems tall and strong; the flowers large and of substantial build; color clear, an effect enhanced by a splendid texture; flower form the more lovely from a slight waving of the segments. As a seedling this Iris has always easily survived the yearly comparisons and sortings, and each time has emerged as a distinct and thoroughly satisfying variety. Detail: S. domed, Pale Hortense Violet; F. wide, semi-flaring, Pale to Light Amparo Purple; beards, Light Cadmium, paler at outer end. Flower: 5 inches x 5 inches, the parts in good proportion. Stem: 38 inches tall, branched from middle up, and carrying 7-8 flowers. Plant of strong growth and blooming habit. Midseason. $10.00.
From Western Iris Gardens, 1948: HARRIET THOREAU (Cook, 1944). M. 38". An orchid pink, self, clear and bright. Beautiful in form and heavy substance, individual in style, with long bloom period. HM 1945. $5.00.
