(TB) 'Harrison Weir'

1880, Barr

'Harrison Weir' (Barr and Sons, 1880) TB. Midseason bloom. Color Class S6M.

According to an article in the July 1894 edition of The Gardener's Chronicle written by Harrison Weir of Sevenoaks, this Iris was a seedling from Jacquesiana that Mr Weir raised himself, c.1879 and which was named after him by Mr Barr. He describes it as having large flowers with a fine form, light crimson-sulphur standards suffused with blue and falls of bluish purple reticulated with white at the base and with an orange beard. This description seems at odds with the later catalogue descriptions.
