From Indian Spring Farms catalog, 1927: HERMIONE (Hort 1920) 8.8. A large, late-flowering bicolor of exceptionally fine form and substance. S. lavender-violet; F. flushed hortense-violet below the thick, yellow beard; haft conspicuously edged yellow ochre to ochraceous tawny. Foliage markedly broad and short stalks well and widely branched. 36 inches. $3.00 each. |
From Bonnewitz catalog, 1923/24: HERMIONE (Hort) $5.00. I have heard a great deal of commendation of this variety, and it seems somewhat more vigorous than other of the Hort seedlings. Purchasers should not confuse it with the variety of the same name which was distributed ten or more years ago. It is unfortunate that Mr. Hort did not know there was a Hermione in existence, and that Mr. Dykes did not know there was a Gold Crest, and that Vilmorin did not know there was a Magnifica, for it is quite probable that some growers are innocently selling the old varieties bearing these names to customers who believe they are purchasing the new varieties. |
