From Rainbow Hybridizing Gardens catalog 1963: HORNED MYSTERY (Austin '62) L-40". Most brillianT of all horned & spooned Iris. Standards bright pink, flushed yellow. Falls brilliant crimson, with striking snow-capped effect. Beard also white, adding to effect. The mystery arises as to why it is sometimes a stunning horned Iris, with pure white needle-like horns 1" to 1-1/2" long, & sometimes a breath-taking spooned one, with bright red spoons as large as 1" across, at ends of white horns.
