'Illustrious' (David Hall, R. 1952). TB, 36" (91 cm), Midseason bloom . Color Class B1M, Medium-blue self, slight brush of lighter blue at haft. (Name transferred from 1947 registration of seedling not introduced.). 'Chivalry' x 'Bandmaster'. Cooley 1953.

From Wallace Iris Gardens 1955: ILLUSTRIOUS - (Hall '53) (Chivalry x Bandmaster) A late flower with large blooms of uniformly deep blue aproaching indigo. With an inconspicious beard, Illustrious' smooth hafts reveal a brown tone. Widely branched. 36 in. Very late. $5.00.
From Fleur De Lis Gardens catalog 1956: ILLUSTRIOUS (D. Hall 1953) L. 36 in. (Chivalry x Bandmaster). A very large flower of rich indigo blue with touches of brown on the haft. A most welcome addition to the garden for its late bloom. Said to be most stunning in a clump. 3.00.
