References:

From Wing Seed catalog, 1919: IRIS KING — (Var.) A beautiful new Iris, a cross between Pallida Dalmatica and Maori King. Plant tall and strong, flowers large. S. old gold; F. very broad, rich velvety crimson bordered gold. 50¢
From Movilla Gardens catalog, 1921: IRIS KING. (Goos & Koenemann 1907.) A. M., R. H. S. 1916. S. clear lemon-yellow; F. rich maroon, bordered yellow. Brilliant colors. Large flowers. Very fine.

From H. P. Simpson catalog, 1922: IRIS KING (G. & K., ,1907) — S. rich yellow shaded fawn; F. rich maroon with yellow beard. Fine coloring and a handsome iris, but not large, even though some growers describe it as such. A little overpraised by some. About 26 inches. 35¢
From Bonnewitz catalog, 1923/24: IRIS KING (Goos & Koenemann) $0.50. This is an old standard variety of great excellence, and it is included here for the benefit of beginners in Iris culture. Its standards are tan and its falls are a good shade of red purple. All Iris gardens should contain Iris King, Rhein Nixe, and Pallida Dalmatica, for our Iris education must include the knowledge of these three varieties. You will probably find them listed at twenty-five cents each in some grower’s catalogs and if you believe that grower to be reliable, with a reputation for keeping his Irises true to name, give him the order. You may find that on some other varieties my prices are higher than other reliable growers, and in such instances you will, of course, give the other reliable grower the preference.
From Indian Spring Farm catalog, 1927: IRIS KING (Goos &. Koenemann 1907) 7.9. A large, well-formed flower of very rich coloring. S. buff-yellow, arching; F. very broad and flaring, velvety garnet-brown, shaded oxblood-red and bordered with yellow; haft yellow. Moderate grower, with high-branched stalks. 24 inches. This grand Iris, though not highly rated, is included in the list of almost every Iris authority as the best of its color type. 35 cts. each; 85 cts. for 3; $3.00 per doz.
