JUNGLE FIRES (Schreiner 1960). A big, stylish, hot red from the brown side, this put on an exceptional show wherever seen this year. It would appear to be one of the few reds that does not object to our southern climate. [Ralph and Helen Lewis, “Irises From North Carolina’s Coastal Plains to the Foot of Pikes Peak,” The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 167 (October 1962): 89.] |
From Fleur De Lis Gardens catalog 1963: JUNGLE FIRES (Schr. '60) E.M. 36 in. From Defiance. Another new red with good flaring form and the usual Defiance type coloring and smoothness. Smokier but somewhat on the order of Bolero and Stampede. H.M. 1960. 7.50. |
