From Maple Valley Gardens catalog, 1947: KING HIGH (Whiting 1947) No. 4273 (SKY HIGH X SNOWKING) M. L. 50 in. In 1940 a strange iris appeared in our seedling row from (SENSATION X HAPPY DAYS). It was a large flowered blue that stood 55 to 60 inches tall, when it stood. Mostly it twisted so we planted it along a fence and called it SKY HIGH, the climbing iris. We crossed it with SNOWKING and got this tall white which we named KING HIGH. It is still too tall but is a good white iris and so many people have been interested in it, especially for breeding, that we offer it for sale. $1.00.
