From Quality Gardens catalog 1930: LABOR (La-boar') (Cayeux 1926) M. 36" F. An absolutely new color. Dark violet heliotrope, practically a self, although the falls are a shade deeper than the standards. The standards are suffused with a soft coppery glow. The color effect is burnished red copper and is wonderfully beautiful. The flowers are very large on stout stems. Mr. Percy Murrell oEngland rated this at 91. Mr. G. L. Pilkington, Secretary of the English Iris Society, rated at 90. (Put the picture of this flower in the sunlight and you will see how it looks in the garden.) At this astonishingly low price for a new introduction this should be ieveryone’s collection. We cannot recommend this too strongly to our customers. (The flower in the colored picture is about one-half the size of the actual flower.) $4.75. |

From Cooley's Iris Gardens, Wholesale Pricelist for 1931: Labor. A deep garnet colored flower, overlaid with a copper and bluish sheen. This unusual tone has made Labor one of the best sellers of the past two seasons. This iris crowds Opera out of the picture, and is most effective as a clump where its intense color can be displayed to most advantage. Our limited stock last year was quickly sold out, but we now have a fair quantity of excellent plants at very reasonable prices. Each $2.00; three for $4.50; ten for $12.50. |
