From Fay catalog, 1950: Lake Breeze. $3.00 No. 41-21- Gloriole X Ballet Girl (l945) Cool wisteria blue with just a suspicion of pink shining through the blue. Lake Breeze is heavily ruffled, the falls flaring and wide with no haft markings; 37 inches tall. Midseason. H.M. 1945. |
LAKE BREEZE (Fay 1945) M. Cool and refreshing, this lovely iris has been given high praise by many iris judges. A large very ruffled light blue with just a suspicion of pink delicately diffused on the center of the standards and falls. The flowers are slightly larger and deeper in color than Gloriole one of its parents, with broad full standards firmly held and almost meeting over the beard. The falls are flaring and wide with no haft markings. Beard orange in the throat shading off to white at the tip. There is an attractive shading from light to deeper blue in each flower as if it were illumined by a shining light. Vigorous and thoroughly hardy with nine to eleven heavy substanced flowers on each well branched stalk. H.C., A.I.S. 1944. 37 in. $20.00. [Mrs. Thomas Nesmith, Fairmount Gardens Catalog, Lowell, Massachusetts, Introductions for 1945.] |

LAKE BREEZE (Fay, 1945): Similar in form to Helen McGregor, but less attractive when established in a clump. The subtle blend of pink and blue which makes the individual flower so entrancing blurs its color in mass. John Dolman, Swarthmore, Pa. [“Varietal Comments” The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 103, (October 1946): 61.] |
