From H. P. Simpson catalog, 1922: L. A. WILLIAMSON (Williamson, 1918) — S. soft campanula-violet; F. velvety royal-purple; brilliant golden beard. Massive in flower and growth. Said by some to be one of the finest in the world. 36-42-inch. Not for sale. |
From Robert Wayman, "Best Twenty-five Irises", The Flower Grower, Oct 1925: LENT A.WILLIAMSON: This variety was given the highest rating of 96 by the American Iris Society Jurors in 1922. My own opinion is that while it is a fine flower, Ambassadeur should have been rated ahead of it. |
