LONELY SEA (Tompkins 1965) M. Vl. 44 in. (Mountain Music x Flag Ship). A sister to 'Fleet Admiral', this is a gorgeous self of shining sky blue with a glittering sky blue beard. It is clear, clean and unveined with ultra heavy substance and huge size. It has very broad, elegantly ruffled and perfectly domed standards and huge, round, ruffled falls, so broad their sides touch and so flatly horizontal that the whole flower has a delightful, ready-to-fly appearance and airy grace that belies the huge size. Extra strong and very tall, well-branched zig-zag, Mountain Music type stalks show these huge, flat flowers to perfection. Hardy plants with large foliage and rhizomes but not as fast of increase as its sister seedlings. No. 61-135A ........ $ 30.00. Fleur de Lis catalog, 1965]
